IMDB commenter slams Mike Bara and his fellow alien uncoverers

I really wasn't going to comment on Mike Bara's TV show Uncovering Aliens any more. Yes, OK, it's a piece of shit that hasn't yet uncovered one single alien, but as long as Mike is busy doing this rubbish he isn't publishing astronomy rubbish, so it's a win for science.

But I came across this IMDB comment from "jake_in_sd" and just had to share.

"This is the worst thing I've ever seen on such a serious topic. Where did you get the lunatics who are on the show? These guys believe ANYTHING. Im definately NOT a skeptic. I BELIEVE UFO's are real, but these guys are an embarrassment. They and other social misfits like them are exactly the reason this topic has little to no mainstream credibility. The guy masquerading as X CIA may well have worked for the agency, but likely only as a janitor they had to let go for being too mentally unstable to push a broom! And the lunatic Brit who thinks that "..millions of people a year are being abducted..." seems to have sucked too long on the tailpipe of his Morris Mini. Talk about the worst possible spokespeople for this topic, these guys make 'Bobo' off Searching For Bigfoot look like a Rhodes Scholar. This phenomenon is REAL, but until you yank these guys off the air and either leave the topic alone, or install credible people who dont see little green men behind every tree, all you are doing is disserving a very real topic and making everyone who believes look just as stupid, inbred-backward stupid, as these four half-wits who dont have a double-digit I.Q. between them. I thought last years Mermaids special was your low point, but sweet Jesus youve outdone yourselves and found an all time embarrassing bottom feeder. PLEASE, for the sanctity of the topic and out of respect for those who have had real encounters CANCEL THIS HORRIBLE SHOW!"

That was hilarious, Expat! Do you have a link to the original comment?

There's another review, too.

"Of the latest batch of UFO related shows, this is the absolute worst. Sensationalistic, unscientific, garbage."

Women appear to have other views on this:

User ratings - demographic breakdowns

Yes, I know their rating system is pretty broken since many years but according to this only thanks to certain female fans it got two extra stars!

That's probably Sara Shanae using 7 different aliases.

I love the scene in Uncovering Aliens where they see the black helicopter and run to the jeep to give chase. Mike lumbers, limps, and finally makes it to the jeep. I'm thinking, "poor guy" until I snap back to the reality that I'm watching Mike Bara the insult machine trying to look like Captain Action, then I just collapse into laughter.

That's my favorite too. First because it's so obviously staged, and second because what the hell's the point of chasing a helicopter with a suburban?

I was just poking around in IMDB and found a whole lot more hilarious mockery in the message board.

Also discovered, interestingly, that this is Jason Massot's first ever IMDB credit as director. All I can say is, it shows.

I notice that around the time the series came out, all the comments on IMDB were dripping in praise for it.
Then, a few weeks later, the comments nosedive and call it out for the shite that it really is.

I've noticed this before on IMDB. Look up any commercially successful stinker (Noah, Eat Pray Love or Pi are examples) and read the first bunch of comments. Heaps of praise for the greatest, most profound movie ever. Then click about 7 or 8 pages in and read the real comments and you'll see what a crock it really is.

Since of course there's no way Mikey or Sara would be using aliases, how else can we explain this strange behavior?

Sad to say, boosting a book or a movie by seeding 5-star user reviews is just a routine branch of the marketing biz these days.

See the review of Ancient Aliens on Mars by Sheila Knies for an immediately relevant example.

The very first 5* review of 'Uncovering' is suspicious in the extreme. "MoonBerger" evidently joined IMDB for the express purpose of posting the review. Same with "MontereyBay1" who stayed around long enough to add comments to four other negative reviews.

The show is on youtube. I just watched the first episode. OMFG!!!

These guys are IDIOTS!!! First of all I love how they go round exposing the gubmint's "Black Ops" openly on US TV without repercussions and don't land in Gitmo. Then there's the atrocious acting, hand held camera movements and non-evidence. Seriously, where do they get these idiots? The cowboy and the Brit were both abducted in the past. Loved the bit with the geiger counter and the stone circle. Definitely proof of alien landing gear right there.

The best bit though was Mikey playing the skeptic and insisting on hard evidence. The multiple exposure time lapse of a plane flying over and the ink analysis by Dr. Bob (no relation to Dr. Bob on the Muppet Show) were just hilarious. I never knew the US Forestry Dept was holding alien secrets (they're even credited in the titles). I know now. Good work Mike.

It was hilarious and depressing at the same time. The "Plan 9 From Outer Space" of documentaries. I'm definitely not watching any more episodes while sober.

Has Mikey been on South Park yet? I can't wait.

Stay Tuned.....

During the whole show I was waiting for one of George Pal's Martian UFOs from "War of the Worlds" to zap them and burn them to a crisp.

Now THAT would be entertainment.

Just watched bits of that youtube link...

Painful... really terrible acting. These are grown adults doing this, yet I've seen better acting of make-believe stories from children playing.

As for Bara, huffing and puffing along, if he's going to be running after imaginary helicopters he needs to address his metabolic syndrome first. I'd suggest a low carbohydrate diet and moderate exercise to burn off some of that fat.

Unfortunately, they missed a great opportunity to include him in their episode about the History Channel claiming ancient aliens attended the first Thanksgiving. I was especially disappointed they didn't include
Giorgio Tsoukalos. That should have been a no-brainer.

I think Mikey missed an opportunity to make sweet, sweet love to Maureen Elsberry when the Cowboy and the Brit went off with the Geiger counter.

Still, I learned something from it. Namely that UFOs go up into space, get exposed to radiation and bring that radiation back to Earth. Great science that from an ex CIA agent and alien abductee. What better source?

I'm planning to review it, obviously.

It looks to be a fun filled evening of seeing things in the Chinese lander images that aren't really there. Hoagie has been doing this act for ages. His big come back is only another over zoomed image away.

Oh Lordy, I just came from listening to C2C in my car and looking at the STUNNING CONFIRMATIONS in the Chinese Lunar images that you can only see after Hoagie "turns the gain up" using Photoshop.

So, so, so much comic gold.
