Hoagland in Europe

Our favorite pseudo-scientist is in Europe for the purpose of being paid to spout nonsense about the Seekrit Space Program. While there, he explained to his FB fans that he wouldn't be able to pay much attention to the page (mostly deleting awkward questions) because, among other things, he had scheduled media interviews.

I'm having fun imagining a European newshound prepping for an interview with The Big [sic] Man:

Reporter: Hang on a minute Richard, I've been reading up on you. You reckon there's a robot head in a Moon crater, right? You reckon NASA times all its launches and landings to conform to a ritual of Egyptian God worship, right?

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

Expat, speaking of Hoagland in Europe, have you seen this little ditty? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW9r17nEpSc ?

Apparently some clever people over on The Final Frontier Face Book page found this thing a couple of years ago. They described Hoagland as "taken a back" when he found out they had access to it. Watching it, I can see why.

Even by Hoagland's standards, this stuff is pretty lame. It looks like he was trying out some new material on the audience, and it really wasn't ready yet. It's got ancient ruins orbiting Saturn, and dinosaurs that were big thanks to the miracle of HD physics. If I were Hoagland, I'd be embarrassed by this crap too.

Oh yes, I remember running this some time ago. It was the appalling video production that made me stop watching after a short time -- I didn't really stay long enough to see the equally appalling quality of the content.

Not one of his finer moments to be sure. I'd love to see him try to get the whole HD physics enhanced dinosaur thing past Noory some night though. :)

A side note on the conference. Early in the morning on Friday, Hoagland announced there would be a live feed you could purchase for Sunday. Later that day Hoagland announced that this was not feasible. The problem is, the conference website was still promoting the live feed and taking orders for it well into Saturday evening, despite the fact that I mentioned the problem on Hoagland's FB page Friday night.

Come Sunday morning, the link was finally removed the conference is now offering refunds (through a 3rd party) for those who bought the live feed. My question is why did it take them so long to fix such an obvious problem? Wouldn't it have been in their best interest to take two minutes to handle it then?

Just finished listening to Hoagland's presentation. In it, has done the impossible (for him). He is actually mind numbingly boring. Most of his "secret space program" talk was about how 911 was caused by some HD weapon from space. No space Nazis (which would have been interesting), just excruciatingly dull Truther BS with a Hoagland twist. For almost 3 hours awful hours. Even the organizers were trying to get him off the stage.

A little fun update. Much of Hoagland's presentation was based on the work of Dr. Judy Wood. In an email sent to me by Dr. Wood (she is getting quite a few emails inquiring about this topic), the good Doctor confirms that Hoagland did not have her permission to use that material. From what I know of the writing world, this sounds like a mortal sin.

That's a good find, Chris. Hoagland will stonewall as he did with Walter Myers (until Myers contacted RCH's web host and had them yank his copyrighted art work).

It wasn't my original find to be honest. Someone else in another thread brought it up. I was quite skeptical though, I didn't really believe even Hoagland would do something that stupid. It was a public and paid venue after all. That's why I (and according to her, quite a few people) emailed her on the topic. I presented this on his FB page, with the usual defenders screaming about "he sited her!". As I understand it, you have to do a bit more that just site the author if you are going to use (and get paid for) their work.

I'm sure you'll be amused by Keith Laney's opinion of Hoagland's piracy.

That was an interesting link. There is no doubt that Hoagland is one dishonest hombre. What I didn't realize is that he could be that arrogant and stupid too. This presentation was audio broadcast live on the Internet. You can actually download a free mp3 of it. The organizers charged people to be there, planned on charging for a live video feed, and will charge for the DVDs of the event when they come out. How Hoagland thought this wouldn't get back to her and that she wouldn't react is beyond me. Again, this is one of those things that writers go to war with TV and movie studios over. Just ask Harlin Ellison. :)

Quick question to anyone who writes for a living. Is there anything Dr. Wood can do in this situation? Hoagland seems quite smug about the whole thing, so perhaps her choice of action is limited.

I write for a living but haven't ever been involved in any legal action. I find I can eventually get justice (of a kind) from publishers by yelling at them.

My amateur advice would be to go for, not Hoagland himself, but the company that markets the eventual DVD. It's virtually certain to be Filmbaby, through whom he's released all his other videos. If they were made aware that they're dealing copyvio material they might take notice.

For the record, I'm not in contact with Dr. Wood. Our only exchange was the email I sent her and her response, so I don't know how (or if) she intends on pursue the matter. I was just curious why Hoagland doesn't seem to have even contacted her and doesn't appear to be worried about it.

As to the DVD, I think he's preparing to cover his tracks on that one. He claims it will take "detailed editing" before it can be released, so it's possible one of the "details" he'll be "editing" will be the images he may have "borrowed" from her website. That and the organizers' continual calls for him to wrap it up. :)

Hoagland isn't worried because, as we know, he doesn't care a rat's ass about other people's copyright.

Chris Lopes said...

Yeah, but you'd think he'd be concerned about the consequences this time. This was a major (in that world) event that was recorded. He didn't just take a few things here and there, he based the bulk of his presentation on it. He must either be very sure of his legal situation, or he's an even bigger arrogant ass than I thought.

Hoagland may be getting some push back on this.
