Robert Morningstar and the Daily Mail really hate Hillary

We don't do politics here because — particularly right now, and particularly in the USA — it's everywhere else. But James Concannon reports from the Facebook trenches with an aeronautical/avionics story that's certainly rooted in the P word.

James Concannon writes...

There's no possible doubt about where Robert Morningstar's political sympathies lie. On the book of farces, he's now posting almost daily diatribes against the Democratic US presidential candidates. One that made me smile and react yesterday was this piece of tabloid trash from the London Daily Mail: Conspiracy theorist claims Hillary Clinton 'murdered' John F Kennedy Jnr because he was planning to run for the same senate seat as her in shocking new book.

Recap: JFK Jnr., his wife and sister-in-law all died when the Saratoga light plane he was piloting went down during descent to Martha's Vineyard on the night of 16 July 1999.

Splashdown point of the aircraft: Not lined up with runway 6

I happen to know that Mr. Morningstar is an accomplished private pilot himself, so I asked him for some clarification. How could this dirty deed have been accomplished, what evidence of foul play exists, and what evidence of Clinton skullduggery? He replied thuswise:
"The murder method was sabotage. executed by disabling the Saratoga's electrical system so that all JFK Jr's attitude and navigational instruments would fail when he arrived at Martha's Vineyard at night. I proved this to the NTSB in 2003, and his accident report file was subsequently changed from "Pilot Error" to "spatial disorientation" through my intercession with the Vice Chairman of the NTSB, General Rosenker. You can write to the NTSB under FOIA and ask them (with my permission) for the 2 accident reports (2000 & 2003), and request copy of our correspondence. Concannon, Thou art a "loose cannon." and Thou art truly our "Facebook village idiot." Stick to analyzing "moon dust" and leave flying to pilots. -> M*"
Well, that of course is far from being a complete answer, and perhaps unnecessarily scornful, but it helps to understand AM*'s blinkered view of the event. The problem is this: JFK Jnr. was certified to fly under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) only, not by instruments. He got very unlucky with the weather — on approach to the Vineyard, the haze was so comprehensive that there was no visible horizon. Several other pilots in the area confirmed this. That was, in fact, the predominant cause of the tragedy, and a presumptive saboteur could not possibly have predicted that fact in advance. In fact, tampering with the avionics flown by a VFR pilot is extremely unlikely to succeed, since by definition such a pilot would not be relying on his instruments. The theory therefore inherently lacks credibility. In addition, Robert Morningstar and the Daily Mail will need to explain why radar was getting good and accurate data from Kennedy's encoding altimeter. NOTE: The NTSB Final Report includes this: "Examination of the airframe, systems, avionics, and engine did not reveal any evidence of a preimpact mechanical malfunction."

As for identifying the Clintons as the saboteurs, there isn't even a whisper of evidence of that in the Daily Mail. I truly doubt that Roger Stone's book includes credible evidence either. None of that is a problem for Morningstar — he just goes ahead and posts anything derogatory about Democrats, truth be damned.

I reject religion because it seems to me it makes people hate each other. Now it seems that politics does the same.

=================================
ref: More deets on the tragedy from the pedia that is wiki.
ref: The NTSB Final Report, including much altitude data that can only have been obtained from a functioning encoding altimeter.

Update:
It's now more than a week since I asked Mr Morningstar to explain the altitude data. We can now safely assume that he has exercised his right to remain silent on that question.

On a whim I searched the interwebs to see if JFK Jr's death was faked. Which conspiracy to believe?

I admit to not being Hillery fan myself, but this is just plain stupid. JFK jr.'s death is a clear case of a VFR pilot being caught in IFR conditions. Pilots call it a death spiral, where the VFR pilot keeps turning the plane trying to find an opening in the weather while failing to notice that they are losing altitude with every turn. As in this case, it usually ends with the pilot flying right into the ground (ok, water this time). No conspiracy needed, just bad judgment in choosing to fly over water without an IFR rating.

Why pick just one? Read a book. She forced him to fake it.

I flew as an Army Aviator in this area many times. (Connecticut National Guard) At that time of year, it is almost impossible to fly VFR, the haze makes the horizon disappear. All of us in my unit were IFR rated and when we flew out to Cape Cod, we might have filed a VFR flight plan, but one pilot was on the gauges and the other as lookout when it was necessary. Junior just exceeded his skills, and as pointed out above, hit the water. (I might point out that during August, this condition was almost guaranteed every evening.)

A highly useful comment, anon, thanks a bunch. Would you agree that the sabotage story is obvious bullshit?

James: Yes, unless they hit him with an unknown ray to make him think he could fly better than he did!! (Just kidding!) The main thing that bothers me about this whole affair is his lack of understanding of just how dangerous this area is in the summer. He could have dialed in the navaid at his destination and followed I 95 to Rhode Island, and had an easier time getting there,(We did this regularly in the CT Guard, when we got to the radial of the runway, we turned and made an approach.) in addition, his plane had all the latest navigation and autopilot gear. Why did he not use it?? It could have flown him to the threshold of the runway, and all he had to do would have been to land it..I suppose civilians do not get the intensive training that the Military does, but at least he could have known his limitations and cheated a bit to survive..What do you think??

James and Fellows; One more thing, I like whackamundo woo theories as much as anyone, I find them entertaining, but when it comes to woo about something I am familiar with, then the gloves are off. This one always bothered me, because this does not involve something that is speculation, like UFO's or the like. This is a simple case of Occam's Razor with evidence to back it up. I do not know why some people are quick to complicate a situation without exhausting all the reasonable explanations first. It makes it hard to accept anything from these sorts of people if this is the best they can come up with.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the flight school he went to suggested he stay long enough to get his Instrument rating, but he was in a hurry to back to his life. Makes for an interesting what if question.

Bill Clinton shook hands with his cousin, Jack Kennedy, at the White House, while on a grade school field trip. O'bama says he'll pardon Hilarity for every crime she's ever committed, up til now, but with that chronic cough of her's, her running mate Joe Biden will probably become Prez.

I've not had my ear to the ground for half a year. Has Hoagland done any radio shows in 2016 to reveal any new info, or has he disappeared from the scene?

Anon: Hoagland hosts "Other Side of Midnight" from midnight to 02:00 PDT. Standard radio chat format, with many repeats and open lines. He constantly interrupts his guests. I blogged about it last October. The show is due to move off DMDN very soon, but where it's going is a mystery.

Interestingly, Novvak posted the same text to Facebook as "Theadora."

Did Thea get it wrong there too? John Kennedy was JFK jr's dad, hence the Junior part.

James, he's only exercising that right in this particular instance on this particular issue. Guys like that never stay quiet forever. I also think he'll still use the issue in any talks he gives on the subject, neatly ignoring reality at his leisure.

As to politics and religion making people hate each other, you are underestimating the human capacity to find things to hate each other over. Sure how (or if) you worship a deity or who you want to vote for can be major reasons used to hate, but so can which sports team you follow (Yankees vs. Red Sox) or which science fiction franchise you love (Trek vs. Star Wars). We are a very tribal species with a built-in aversion to those not in our tribe. The trick is to get people to expand their definition of what constitutes their tribe.
