At least Mike Bara's honest about his vanity

A few days ago, Mike Bara tweeted this:
I LOVE watching myself on TV. Seriously, it never gets old
I guess he was watching re-runs of Ancient Aliens. Was it Season 4 Ep 5 "The NASA Connection", in which Mike made at least four major errors? Season 3 Ep 12 "Aliens and Deadly Cults", which he also screwed up? Or Ep 13, "Aliens and the Secret Code", featuring Mike pontificating about a subject that he not only had no expertise in, but that he knew nothing whatsoever about?

It's endearing that he comes so clean about his narcissism (I suspect it's really directed at the Las Vegas strippers who frequent his Fuckbook page,) but it's a shame that what Mike is so proud of shows him up as so hopelessly wrong to those of us who actually understand science.

Meanwhile, Richard Hoagland's vanity has taken a hit....
It's beginning to seem certain that Coast-to-Coast AM has totally stiffed Hoagland, their "science adviser." It's a safe bet that he pleaded to be allowed, first, to beg for funds for that proposed jaunt to the pyramids with his girlfriend Robin Falkov, then when that didn't work, at least come on the air to report his Accutron "experiment" during this week's Venus transit.

He was not invited to talk about the Venus transit, however. Instead, the night before the event, Eric Francis was given the topic for most of an hour. The general rejoicing in the lack of Hoagland was spoiled by the unfortunate fact that Francis deals in astrology and told us a bunch of poppycock about how the transit would help our "relationships." Oh dear.

To add insult, Hoagland's nemesis (and we sincerely hope, one day, replacement as science adviser) Bob Zimmerman turned up a night later to talk about the USAF's X-37B, a topic Hoagland considers his (despite the fact that he gets the name wrong and totally mis-reports its mission.)

To be fair, if I were ever on TV - even just a local news show, I don't think I'd get tired of seeing myself on it.

The reason that Hoagland won't correctly use the term, "X-37B" is because he is a spook under oath of national security, not to discuss nuclear powered Project Prometheus, since it was picked by the DOD. As you are well, aware, Hoagland promoted the crap out of that, but now deletes all mention of it from his facebutt page.

As background, I am a statistician and predictive modeler. I will not pretend to fully understand the specifics of the physics often discussed on this blog, however, I understand the principles well enough to be confident that RC Hoagland, and, his proxy Misti Parker, are both clinging to an ideal bereft of logic, reason and common sense. That is all. G. Francis DeMara.

I noticed Hoagland wasn't on (and Zimmerman was, that really must have hurt) too. I think one of the problems in this case is that Hoagland is basically just talking about a line on a graph, a 'data point'. That doesn't exactly lend itself to a couple of hours of radio entertainment. Since Hoagland's only function is to keep people entertained long enough for Noory to sell them useless stuff, the laptop and watch thing was a nonstarter.

As to Bara, yeah he's an egotist and apparently proud of it. Since he isn't trying to come off as a world saver, and he's using his 'fame' simply as a means to score with cougars (not an especially noble goal, but better than attempting to form a virtual cult like Hoagland), I can't get too upset with him. He is what he is, which is (to quote The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) 'mostly harmless'.

It's interesting, too, that there is no update - or none visible (as the bottom third of the page is white with giant, meaningless images)- of the Venus Transit on the Enterprise page.

You must be viewing in Firefox. There is, in fact, text in that area but the background image tiling ran out so the text is white on white. MSIE continues the tiling so you can read it all. In fact you can select the "missing" text in FF by sweeping the active mouse pointer over it, too.

I'm supposedly an expert in HTML so I could probably figure out why this happened if I took the time. There's a lot to complain about in that page, for sure -- No DOCTYPE declaration, no HEAD element, no ALT attributes on any images.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy ... Very good, Chris, it's true. The Hoaglandian “cult” is initiatic and fidelist, that gives back to society, is such a less than a “cult” really, because Hoagland is very lazy, and also the man himself isn´t quite clear about it, if not comfortable with too far scientological or nonsense approaches conspiranoic theories games and entanglements such as Misti´s ; unless not enunciate himself, of course ... I wonder if was for this reason that Bara and he moved away ... Or maybe it was because Bara is too horny and unpleasantly pimp, and cheeky ,even for Richard? Anyway, it doesn´t really matter ...Poor man,not even call to C"C . Theré´s another here in Spain:"Cuarto Milenio" , is really something too:Min 1.30http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNgK2V-tQw8 . Very funny.

Me, Hoagland's proxy? I didn't even know he was a protctologist! He never even ever wore gloves!

Misti,
"Protctologist"?(sic). "Gloves"? Hoisted by my own petard. Please sheath your cutlass for I fear my wound is mortal! GFDM.

Esteban,

If "Unpleasantly Pimp" isn't a band name, it sure as hell should be.

Concerning Richard C., I do indeed hope he's regained at least a modicum of perspective regarding his own importance. He sure needed it, though it's not likely to keep him down for long. I can't wait to hear his attitude toward George the next time he's on Coast to Coast.

Esteban: With two GIGANTIC egos like Hoagland & Bara, a split was inevitable, sooner or later. They've been very polite about each other, so obviously the split wasn't really acrimonious.

Thanks a lot for digging up that long quote from Sagan -- I'm sure you won't mind if I re-post it here.
