Art could do those things ...Red State and Misti,
Art could do those things because his personae was the magic ingredient in the show. He was the mad prophet of the desert (literally, as he was broadcasting from a trailer in his backyard in the middle of Nevada) who was letting us all in on some deep dark secret stuff. So he could make you want to believe in even the least likely of things. It was a lot more fun than Noory's potted plant act. At the very least Art would make a guest squirm a little and encourage the callers to ask the tough questions, whereas now, Noory is barely present, asking heavily scripted softballs. Calls are heavily screened so as nobody that is going to take the guest to task gets through. (unless they lie their way through the gatekeepers, which results in them being abruptly cut off)

On a side note, maybe its the nostalgia talking, but I don't remember Noory always being so bad. Obviously, he's mailing it in now, but when he first took over and it wasn't clear he'd be getting another contract he seemed to make an effort and was at least passable.Red State Blueshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11328080217947224867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051630750074978974.post-81851351207232144532012-10-16T21:56:10.222-07:002012-10-16T21:56:10.222-07:00Art wouldn't usually ask tough questions eithe...Art wouldn't usually ask tough questions either. He had explained his approach, a number of times.

He said how it was a five hour show and that there was plenty of time to allow the guest to get all his information out to the audience. Art would always be sure to make a good plug for whatever the guest was promoting. Not necessarily an endorsement, but without criticism in any regard.

Often times Bell would challenge some obvious points of contention, just to emphasize the guests position, but would never argue with or debate the guest, unless he was a regular like Hoagland or Dames. It's hard to get good guests seven nights a week, and Art didn't want to scare them all off.

What really made the show interesting, was the way that Art would interject, when the guest would ramble on, in order to stop and examine in detail a spectacular, yet glossed over point.

Something along the lines of: 'Wait a minute. Hold it right there. You mean to say that you saw the saucer land in your yard, and the aliens got out? How big was the saucer? Did it have lights? Were these aliens the typical greys or what did they look like?"

Noory just lets guests drone on and on, or else he hits them with a total non sequitur. The guest quite often becomes Noory's co-dependant, trying to compensate so Noory doesn't look like a total retard.

Art would wait until the last segment, having bided his time, silently taking note of the guests on big major flaw, then would ask the on toughest question he could think of. If the guest would evade, he'd ask it again. After a third time of evasiveness, he'd figure that the guest just took the long rope and hung himself.

After that, the rest would be all up the the audience.Jiminy Oddbirdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10550038114874559191noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051630750074978974.post-62744922948918526642012-10-16T09:46:15.946-07:002012-10-16T09:46:15.946-07:00Bell didn't mind hard questions so much becaus...Bell didn't mind hard questions so much because he knew the show was really about him and his personae. The guest was there just to give him something interesting to talk about. If the guest couldn't handle a tough question or two, it was no skin off his nose.

Noory is so bland, the guests are the only things keeping it even half way interesting. So he has to be somewhat deferential to them. He doesn't have the personality to do anything else.Chris Lopeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15603182786879935663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051630750074978974.post-55921439923317151212012-10-15T22:37:48.639-07:002012-10-15T22:37:48.639-07:00>>Misti Parker said...
